A Beautiful Marriage of Literature & Art

The Urban Speculative Fiction Literary Foundation (USFLF), under the leadership of President D. Lee Hatchett, is partnering with the Omaha Public Library Foundation for Omaha’s 1st Annual Rocking Chair-ity™ fundraiser on September 18, 2009.

This event will bring Omaha’s finest artists, the nation’s best urban speculative fiction authors, philanthropic citizens, civic organizations, corporations, and guests together for an evening of literature, art, food, drinks and entertainment. Each artist will paint one rocking chair based on a popular urban speculative fiction novel. The result will be twelve beautifully designed rocking chairs that will be remain on display in Omaha’s public libraries.  Featured Omaha artists are:

Proceeds from this unique event will go toward the USFLF’s Word Warrior Writing Workshops™, which teach Omaha’s at-risk youth to write, edit, publish, market and sell their own science fiction, fantasy or thriller stories in the form of an anthology.  Students who successfully complete the program will receive a publishing credit and a refurbished laptop to enhance their computer skills and continue their writing careers.  Applications for youth will be available on the website in late August.
